Today it is a true misconception to say I am cursed because of the wrongdoings/sins of my ancestors, my parents or my family members even though I am a believer and true follower of Jesus Christ.
“The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge” (Ezekiel 18:1-2)
The Israelites were using this proverb to justify their sins by saying our problems are not our fault; they are because of the sins of our ancestors. And the Father made that very clear He says “as l live you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel” Ezekiel 18:3
Ezekiel 18:4-9 (NASB)
4 Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die. 5 But if a man is righteous and practices justice and righteousness, 6 and does not eat at the mountain shrines or lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, or defile his neighbor’s wife or approach a woman during her menstrual period— 7 if a man does not oppress anyone, but restores to the debtor his pledge, does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing, 8 if he does not lend money on interest or take increase, if he keeps his hand from iniquity and executes true justice between man and man, 9 if he walks in My statutes and My ordinances so as to deal faithfully—he is righteous and will surely live,” declares the Lord God.
Today, some are teaching and preaching still the same thing, saying that a family can have a “Generational curse” because of something one of their ancestor did. The answer is “No” because through repentance and Faith in the only Savior we are saved.
God says to all of us “No way!!” nice try!
In the Old Testament God cursed the nation of Israel to the third and forth generation for turning away from Him, and for they had committed the same sin their ancestors did, “Idolatry”.
We are made new through Christ the old is dead and gone! (2 Corinthians 5:17) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
How can a child of God still be under God’s curse (Romans 8:1) 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Chris; through repentance, Faith in Jesus Christ and life consecrated to the Lord (Romans 12:1-2). 1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Then, there is NO generational righteousness and there is NO generational curse; rather each person will be dealt with based on his own sins. Each person answers to God individually, and makes a choice using his own freewill.
